Carlton Avenue is a unique renovation and conversion of an existing four-story, four-family Brooklyn brownstone
into a residence for a young family.
Combining the upper three apartments into an owner's triplex, the design uncovers the once public stairway for it
and together with a custom-designed millwork guides you from the front entrance and angles through the parlor
floor into the kitchen to an angled terrace to access the garden. The insertion of this main element provides a
spatial mark and backdrop, opening up the prior constricted spaces. The upper levels were reconfigured to offer
more light and less divisions and more direct connection between the floors through the exposure of the previously
enclosed stairs.
