Co-housing, a new model for courtyard living, raises multi-family housing to another level.
It is an assembly of scalable, versatile multi-family housing units offering diverse layers of public,
private and semi-private spaces within a shared site.
Co-housing encourages homeownership through a cooperative model. As shareholders, homeowners
have common amenities such a shared courtyard, a unit for special events or guests, semi-private
sun rooms and roof lawns as well as facilities such as central heating and cooling, storage
and storm water retention tank.
A modular typology offers opportunities to configure the site as well as the individual unit
based on desired density and function and reduces costs for design and construction as well as
operating costs. The presented scheme illustrates one possible configuration at a medium density
level, siting 11 units plus 1 shared unit with an average square footage of 1150 sq.ft.
